A rather impressively curated book with half-leather boards (marbled covers), top edge gilt, and internally, red drop capitals, tissue guards with text in red, b/w illustrations etc. The latter include Hogarth's iconic Beer and Gin Lanes plates - with textual analysis. For a book of this age, the condition is very sound. The main ageing impacts are internally i.e. mild general tanning which is more evident on the preliminary and final pages; also much more apparent on the tissue guards. Our research suggests that this is vol VI in a set of ten volumes - although this is not stated on either the title or half-title pages. More information on request. Printed on India Paper, with impressions of the intaglio plates. No. 394 of 1,000 copies. pp. xliv, 75 (The Analysis) + the sections on individual plates - where the pagination is not sequential. 8vo. Please note that because of the weight of this book, and depending on destination, we may request an additional payment to cover extra shipping/postage charges. Proceeds to Amnesty International.
