Reviews
Mattera's very readable guide really does provide good coverage of the world's 100 most important enterprises--the major companies helping to shape the destiny of the global market. Companies are listed on the basis of size, extent of international activity, and potential for growth, and include Bayer, Bristol-Meyers-Squibb, and Sumitomo. In each company profile, Mattera, a business writer and author of Inside U.S. Businesses: A Concise Encyclopedia of Leading Industries ( LJ 7/87), provides historical background information, financial performance, and major competitors. He also discusses each firm's record on environmental and labor issues, when applicable. An asset is the bibliography listed at the end of each company. This guide provides an excellent overview and gives a general idea about the history and operations of a company. Highly recommended for both public libraries and business collections.
