He has been a Visiting Scholar at the Australian National University, the European University Institute, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, New York University, Resources for the Future (Washington DC), the University of Aberdeen, University of California Riverside and the University of New Mexico. He is the author of many papers and books, including The New Economic Landscape in Europe (1991) and Economics of the Environment (1998).
