Map. Chromolithograph. Sheet measures 11" x 14". From visionary R. Buckminster Fuller's time as a contributor to Fortune Magazine comes this bold representation of the world's energy consumption. Replete with charged language, Fuller describes "inanimate energy slaves" (red dots on the map) in juxtaposition to a much lesser human population (white dots), emphasizing the excessive consumption to which humans have become accustomed. The employment of a map especially demonstrates American energy production; Europe's white-to-red dot ratio looks almost equal, whereas red "energy slaves" far outnumber white (human) points in the U.S. The United States are central on the map, and show the lightest colors, as the edges fade to deep blues in all directions. Fuller's interpretation results in a visually striking and thought-provoking piece on energy production and consumption in 1940. In excellent condition. Richard Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983) was an American architect, systems theorist, author, designer, inventor, and futurist.
