Gr. 5-8. These fact-filled volumes from the 21st Century Debates series provide eye-opening discussions of their subjects. Using short paragraphs with frequent subheads, the authors pack in a dense amount of data, made accessible by the attractive page design, full-color photos, sidebars, and boxes that extend the scope of each volume. Water Supply begins appropriately by explaining how a planet made up of more than 70 percent water can face a water shortage, and goes on to share some frightening projections for the near future as well as solutions already being explored to stem the crisis. World Health takes a compassionate look at the need for a better quality of life in Third-World nations, discussing efforts in various countries to create more health-conscious living. Although the series title is misleading (the books aren't presented as debates), they are well written and present solid, specific information.
