December and Randall try to tell you everything about the Web in a whale of a book. Divided into six sections, with three appendixes and a glossary, this compendium takes you from history to browsers to Web exploration to design and into the future. Five additional authors besides Randall and December have contributed to this magnum opus on the Web. The first section describes the Web, while the second section briefly describes all of the Web browsers, players, and viewers. Navigational tools such as WebCrawler and Web Worm are analyzed along with other Internet compasses and maps in the third section, while the fourth section takes you on a tour of different sites. The fifth section instructs readers in home page construction, and the last examines trends in the use of the Internet and the implications of these trends for the future. Overall, there's always a danger of inventing a fossil in the sheer assembly of an encyclopedia like this, but that's a small complaint.
