There's just a smidge of hyperbole in the title, which is fairly unusual for the editors of Popular Woodworking magazine. Then, again, the claim is real in a sense, because the 22 projects showcased are those statistically proven the most popular. All are delivered in the magazine's signature style--a personal narrative, plenty of illustrations, sidebars that underscore shortcuts and proper techniques, and a real love of the art of woodworking. Few are designated easy or difficult. And few if any would win any product design awards. Yet barrister bookcases, a hanging china cupboard, and modern occasional tables are the very stuff of which traditional American homes are made. Barbara Jacobs
