Worshipping in Darkness (Paperback or Softback)

This work is written about the book of Job. The author shows that the Book of Job speaks about such topics as worship, the meaning of life and an understanding of true mercy, demonstrating how God graciously works to bring encouragement, growth and hope in the midst of sorrow and suffering. Only sincere faith in God helps to overcome all difficulties and losses.

Worshipping in Darkness is an insightful reflection on the impenetrable mystery of the sufferings of Job. Timur Rasulov probes this mystery from all angles, including that of Job’s wife, whose few words in comparison to Job’s “counselors” reveal a deep and deadly theology of worldliness to which none of us is immune. No one who wrestles with the sovereignty of God and the goodness of God and the suffering of God’s people can expect neat and satisfying explanations. What will satisfy is learning to worship God in the midst of suffering’s darkness, just a Job did, and as this book helps us to do. Since Jesus assured his disciples that they will suffer, Christians will gain much help for the journey by reading this book.

In this broken world, suffering of every type abounds. Yet, God is powerfully active in redeeming suffering for His glory and the spiritual benefit of His people. Worshipping in the Darkness: Reflections on the Book of Job provides a clear roadmap through the biblical book of Job, demonstrating how God graciously works to bring encouragement, growth and hope in the midst of sorrow and suffering. Professor Timur Rasulov couples his experience as both scholar and biblical counselor to skillfully shepherd the reader through the message of Job in this heart-transforming study. I highly recommend it.

In all honesty, the book of Job is not easy to understand. Author Tim Rasulov provides a perspective on Job's struggles that shows us how to respond to trials. Stating that "life is a territory where theory and practice often clash," Rasulov illustrates difficult truths in ways that believers can understand and apply.  Although we may think our best worship occurs when we are doing well in life, the exact opposite may be true.  This book challenges that belief by showing us that it is during the darkest times that we can grow in our worship of God.
