Reviews
Grade 4-7-- This revision of The First Book of Letter Writing (Watts, 1957; o.p.) presents in a cheery, light-hearted manner the importance of letter writing as a means of communication. It clearly defines information on punctuation, forms of address, state abbreviations, and postage. The text is interspersed with decorative, humorous pen-and-ink drawings which help to maintain interest in a subject not commonly sought by this age group. This well-organized book will be a boon to those students who are given an assignment, wish to improve upon this skill, or who are unfamiliar with letter writing. The Young Writer's Handbook (Scribners, 1984) by Susan and Stephen Tchudi has just one chapter devoted to letter writing. Mischel's book is a solid addition where there is a need for such reference material. --Mary Lou Budd, Milford South Elementary School, Ohio
