Very Good hardcover in the scarce 1961 revised edition, with no dust jacket as issued. A clean, tightly bound, and unusually well-preserved example of Sheff and Ingalls’s classic guide to business and social correspondence, thoroughly updated by Mary S. Allen for the postwar typewriter era. The text remains bright and crisp throughout, with no writing, marks, or tears; endpapers are similarly clean, showing only a trace of age toning. The gray paper-covered boards are solid and square, exhibiting light shelfwear and faint rubbing along the edges but retaining an excellent overall appearance. The copyright page lists only the 1942 and 1961 dates with no subsequent printings noted, establishing this copy as a First Printing of the 1961 Revised Edition, consistent with Doubleday’s practices of the period. A practical mid-century manual with chapters on formatting, tone, etiquette, employment letters, invitations, condolences, and dozens of model letters. A bright and attractive example of a title often found heavily used. Alexander L. Sheff was a well-known mid-century authority on business communication whose manuals were widely adopted in offices and vocational programs. Edna Ingalls, a specialist in social correspondence and etiquette, contributed the sections on personal letters and invitations. Mary S.
