Writing and Response: Theory, Practice, and Research

At a time when efforts are being made to understand the social and interpersonal nature of writing, we are beginning to recognize not only how important response is to the development of literacy, but also how little we know about it. In the scientific orientation of writing studies, the processes of composing and reading tests are often represented in a highly objective, rational manner, as if the whole business were relatively normative and stable.
