About this Item

Autograph Edition. One of 500 signed and numbered sets (#145). This set bears a 7-line holograph inscription by Wiggin at the front of the first volume to Frank H. Gage and she has dated it 1918. Together, eleven octavo volumes. Each volume with an extra hand-colored plate inserted at front and color and black and white plates throughout. Bound at The Riverside Press in three-quarter crushed green morocco over marbled boards. Spines decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, five raised bands, top edges gilt, others uncut, marbled endpapers. The final volume (published in 1923) has sunned to a pleasant brown, the original ten are all of a uniform color. Armorial bookplate of the inscribee, Frank Herbert Gage. A very pleasing set.Kate Douglis Wiggin (1856-1923) wrote several novels for adults, but is best known for her pastoral children?s books and fairy tales. Her most famous works are The Birds? Christmas Carol and the extremely popular Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.
