To exhibit to the world, striking marks of her extraordinary prodi gality of character and thoughtless impolicy in support of legitimacy, she evinced great imbecility of judgment and foresight, through the internperate exertion of her physical and fiscal powers, in leaguing and subsidising several of the great European States against the revolutionary eons of Gallic Liberty, to perpetuate human slavery and crush the proud qririt of popular Judependence. The unequal struggle, between the powerless impotence of legitimacy, and the energetic magnanimity of the disciples offreedom, was long and sanguinary; and though war-loving Britain, in the prosecution of her favourite system, lavished profusely theblood of her triple nallons, and much more than all her exhausted Exchequer could supply, in supper-tot her darling scheme of human subjection, she finally retired from the field of strife, with blood-stained, unsubstantial glory and empty honours, to brood over the calamities and fatal consequence: of an undischargeable national debt, that still hangs likeadeadweight upon her civil resources, to chasten her inemcieat impolicy, and chew her the delusise temerity and inutility of promoting wars unconnected with her popular interests.
