Sixty plates bound in an attractive book by Xavier Nicolas Willemin (1763-1839). 8.5 x 7 , half leather, 8vo. In good condition. Leather spine is fragile, desiccated leather. Hinges starting. Boards are moderately worn with rubbing to extremities. Gilt call tag #140 pasted to proper right top corner of front board. Remnants of old call tag on spine. Ex-Libris E. Foulc on front pastedown. Front gutter tender. Plates themselves are very well preserved. Ample margins, slightly thumbed with only a few brown spots. All are frame-worthy, although we strongly recommend keeping these in their current state. Plates are numbered 1-60. Please see photos. A gorgeous book of classic Greek art objects. The French printmaker, Xavier Nicolas Willemin specialized in prints of archeological and historical objects. Edmund Foulc provenance. Foulc (1828-1916) was a Businessman and important art collector. Excerpt from The Philadelphia Museum of Art, In 1930, the Philadelphia Museum of Art acquired the collection of medieval and Renaissance sculpture and decorative arts assembled by Edmond Foulc (1828 1916). Foulc s beautiful Paris residence was an important gathering place for like-minded art enthusiasts and collectors such as Frédéric Spitzer, Alexander Basilewsky, and Émile Gavet. . Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Collection of 60 bound plates by Xavier Nicolas Willemin. n.d. [C. 1825] n.p. 8.5 x 7 , half leather, 8vo. In fair condition. Marbled paper covered boards normally scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Front and rear hinges cracked with exposed cording. Head and tail of leather spine lacking (including headbands). Title label on spine chipped; title illegible. Pasted-on paper call tag #140 exhibited on front board's top corner. Ex-Libris book plate found on front paste-down: "E. Foulc". Front and rear gutters split. Plates themselves are very well preserved & attractive. Some normal toning & finger-soiling around edges of leaves. Binding remains intact.
