Barrett McGurn spent 20 years in Europe, North Africa, and Asia as a foreign correspondent and then as a Foreign Service officer. He was the South Pacific war correspondent for YANK, the World War II soldiers magazine. He has received a Purple Heart and the Military Commendation Medal. He has survived eight wars and currently resides in Maryland with his wife of 42 years, Janice Ann McLaughlin.
