Yankee Doodle Riddles: American History Fun

Famous Americans, historical events, and places are featured in a collection of riddles and rebuses.

Grade 3-5-Disguised as an entertaining book of riddles, this broad overview of American history sneaks in dates, places, and people in a "test your knowledge" format. Explorers, Revolutionary War heroes, statesmen, inventors, important events, and presidents-all are the subjects of funny poems, rebuses, jokes, and merciless puns that will make readers groan out loud. "What are six things most pioneers took traveling from Missouri to Oregon on the Oregon Trail? Months." A lighthearted look at the past, this book painlessly combines essential facts with the nonsensical: What do you get if you cross a "spy and a pioneer's transportation? An under-covered wagon." Humorous, brightly colored woodcut illustrations add to the fun. A unique reinforcement of facts for students who love wordplay with their learning.
