Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896-1953) was a Florida author who won the Pulitzer Prize for this, her third book. First published in 1938, it was released in 1939 with illustrations by famed illustrator N. C. Wyeth: in a limited edtion in, a Scribner Classic edition, and in a Pulitzer Prize edition. There are 12 color illustrations by Wyeth as well as a pictorial cover and end papers. This copy is the Scribner Classic edition. It is in presentable condition with no owner names, bookplates, or other inner or outer markings, except that the joint at the inside edge of the secont front blank flyleaf is tender--however, the front and rear illustrated end papers are intact. The original black cloth binding and the front cover Wyeth-illustrated color pictorial paste-down is in nice condtion, however the top edge of the spine is pulled. Probably originally issued with a slipcase, which is no longer present. Please inquire if you would like more information. ; Color & B&W Illustrations; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 400 pages.
