Original early printing, but not the first or early state; b + w plates throughout. Color plate on front board. 275 pages, many b + w illustrations. About fair condition with some general wear. The spine has fraying at top with tears to edges; spine has been reinforced with archival glue and holds well, but is fragile. Some general rubbing, fading, spots, etc. to the covers; age-toning to the pages. Previous child bookplate on inside front cover. Curling at corner boards; some average reading wear. It's actually not too bad a copy. Just old and fragile.
