The 24th book in the Oz series & the 10th one written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, "founded on & continuing" the tradition of the original 14 stories by L. Frank Baum, maintaining the lovely illustrations of artist John R. Neill. Orig. published in 1930, this is a later (post-1935, per Hanff & Greene) printing of that First Edition, with NO color plates, but lavishly illustrated in pen-and-ink by Neill throughout the 275 pages. Plain endpapers, with mild offsetting. Octavo (7" x 9") has orange cloth over boards with a brilliantly colored paper pastedown to front cover & black lettering & design to spine (fancy publisher script, not plain, at heel). Condition is VG: very clean, text block strong & secure, both hinges intact but both starting. Pages creamy white with modest tanning, unmarked save for former owner's name stamp a few places in front matter, mild foxing to outside edges of text block. Soiling to spine, slight frying at both ends. Alas, the original DJ is long gone, but this remains a handsome copy!
