An introduction to the game of baseball utilizes the help of Cincinnati Reds' star Eduardo Perez to demonstrate the proper techniques for hitting, pitching, catching, and running, and is accompanied by hundreds of photos to illustrate the fundamentals.
Reviews:
Grade 4-6-Filled with beautifully-reproduced full-color photos, this title follows the familiar oversized format of the series. Brief chapters offer instruction on different aspects of the game mostly through captioned photographs. The inclusion of as many girls as boys in the illustrations is noteworthy. Smyth provides solid, basic information in an attractive format, but with the number of quality instructional titles already available for this age group, libraries may find this one superfluous. Don Geng's Fundamental Baseball (Lerner, 1995), Jerry Kasoff's Baseball Just for Kids (Grand Slam, 1996), and Peter Kreutzer's Little League's Official How-to-Play Baseball Handbook (Doubleday, 1990) all cover this topic more than adequately.
