The Young Disciple: Or, a Memoir of Anzonetta R. Peters

The Young Disciple: Or, A Memoir Of Anzonetta R. Peters by John A. Clark. This memoir, composed by the Rev. John A. Clark, presents a biographical account of Anzonetta R. Peters, tracing her life from infancy through her religious awakening, sanctification, and steadfast faith until her death in 1833 at a young age. Drawing on materials gathered by her mother and other contemporaries, the book portrays Anzonetta’s humble piety, her diligent training under Moravian and Episcopal auspices, and her evolution into a devoted Sunday-school teacher and active Christian worker. The narrative emphasizes the power of prayer, Scripture memory, and consistent devotion, detailing her trials, spiritual struggles, and the consolations of faith as she faced illness, suffering, and death. Interwoven are episodes of her spiritual guidance to others, including the poor and the vulnerable, and letters and testimonies from friends and clergy that illuminate her character and the impact of her example on Christian readers. The work was originally published in Philadelphia in 1837 and remains a noteworthy early American religious biography that extols humility, self-denial, and unwavering trust in Christ.
