Synopsis:

As home-school families we have a special calling to help our children grow not only in academics, but in their spiritual development as well. By studying and discussing the many worldviews together you are providing your child with a solid understanding of what each culture believes and why they see their beliefs in the way that they do. This gives your child a firm foundation to rely on in their own spiritual journey.
“A Young Historian’s Introduction to Worldview” by Marcia Harris Brim is the most inclusive, and easy to follow worldview program that I have come across yet. This amazing program teaches your student about the four most prevalent and fundamental worldviews: Polytheism, Monotheism, Naturalism, and Pantheism. Twelve of the major religions that exist underneath these worldviews are discussed. No opinions are offered from the author and all views are stated in such a matter-of-fact manner that respect is given to all forms of thought
This program is four lessons long, but could easily be stretched into two to three shorter lessons each. Most of the tools you need are included. The only things you will need to provide yourself are some things from around the house, a library book, and a cassette tape. The hands-on-activities that are provided are engaging and fun to do. Your middle school aged child (or older) should be able to handle them with minimal instruction. Some of the material is of a more mature nature, so I would advise that you read each lesson ahead of time if you have younger children that will be participating. After each lesson is a section entitled “Table Talk”. This section facilitates a family discussion where you can ask and answer questions that will help solidify your family’s belief system.
The fact that parents and children alike can benefit from this mini-unit study make it an excellent addition to your curriculum library. Consider it a must have on the topic!
