Taking its title from the anthem of Basel, these three volumes are designed to help children learn to read, particularly the first volume, which goes through common Basel German phonetic sounds alphabetically. The remaining two volumes offer charming poems and short stories. Born is Basel, the Swiss painter Fritz Baumann was a popular illustrator, best known for his works in expressionist and cubist styles. In the publisher's original illustrated binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the joints, with some handling marks to the external wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Volume I has some light brown stains to the bottom edge of its pages. The pages to the remaining volumes are generally bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Good.
