The author is Mikhail Emmanuilovich Goldstein (1917-1989), composer, violinist, music teacher, in emigration, a teacher of the Higher School of Music in Hamburg. The musician lived in Odessa for most of his life, this city is described in memoirs and in 1937 and difficult post -war years; The musician s touring trips in 1939 to Lviv, Bialystok, Chisinau, later to Vyborg are also described. The author of the book did not sit in the Bolshevik concentration camps, but as he notes "for many years in a row he felt something like the shadow of these socialist institutions.".
