About the Author

Allison Funkhouser lives in Plano, Texas where she attends middle school. During the summer of 2004, at age twelve, Allison finished writing her first book, Zealk and the Humans. Early in 2005, Zealk and the Humans was chosen for publication by Timberwolf Press of Allen, Texas.

Allison has been writing stories for years but, with Zealk and the Humans, she heeded the specific advice of Plano author H. J. Ralles, who spoke to her sixth-grade language arts class. Allison concentrated on developing a detailed outline prior to writing the story. This helped her to create a well-connected, entertaining tale with a strong, positive message.

An avid reader, Allison particularly enjoys fantasy fiction and counts the works of J. K. Rowling, Tamora Pierce, H. J. Ralles, and Christopher Paolini as significant influences. She voices a strong desire to join the ranks of these successful authors.

When Allison is not reading or writing fiction, she loves to be outdoors, preferably on horseback. An excellent student, Allison is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, plays viola in her middle school’s advanced orchestra, and participates in both Girl Scouts and Destination Imagination. Watch for more stories by Allison, as her imagination is boundless.
