This picture book of zoo animals is perfectly suited for young children. Charming and engaging, it was made for young readers and parents to share and learn about animals. The animals are introduced in a family setting, without bars or zookeepers. Lion cubs relax with their mother and father on one page, a zebra colt frolics with a parent by moonlight on another, and a baby elephant endures a bath on the next. The 1940s illustrations from George Trimmer have a pleasant, vintage style, and are bright with color and detail. The text is simple and age-appropriate and the words are accompanied by delightful smaller images to interest children. This book is made for very early readers looking to take their first steps into literacy. Perfect for sounding out words (with or without help), At the Zoo is crafted to be highly educational. It is sure to instill a love of both reading and animals in very young children.
