The capture of Damietta; oval cartouche with a fleet entering the harbor of Damietta (1218-1219); the cartouche framed by trophies, coat of arms, and armor; two putti at lower left and right, and two winged female figures bearing palm leaves crowning a seated personification of Haarlem; the first edition was employed as an illustration to Samuel Ampzing's: 'Beschryvinge ende Lof der Stad Haerlem in Holland', Haarlem: Rooman, 1628.Signed at lower left and right: 'I Bouchorst inv./ W. Akersloot sculpt / Pvootds (?)'. With twelve lines of Dutch text in three columns: 'Aldus lag .'.Some details differ from the original impression, most remarkably, the presence of many soldiers on the tower and fortification to the left. Also the inscription below is evidently different. The plate is slightly wider than the original. Etching on laid paper; plate mark: 163 x 241 mm, total: 178 x 252 mm; two vertical creases due to folding, some dirt and smudges, nicely contrasted image. After Hollstein 12. Seller Inventory # 66643
