1802 ' THE GALERONE - THE GALERATA ' A large original antique engraving. PROVENANCE Taken from AN HISTORY OF MARINE ARCHITECTURE by John Charnock (1756-1807 and published by Darton & Harvey. Charnock was a Royal Navy volunteer and author. As well as this publication, he also write a book on Horatio Nelson an Biographia Navailis about the leading figures in Britain's Royal Navy. He studied at Winchester College and at Trinity College, Oxford. He then joined the Royal Navy as a volunteer and became friends with Captain Locker (Nelson's correspondent) After inheriting a fortune, Charnock left the Navy but had soon spent all his inheritance and turned to writing to make a living. Charnock fell into poverty and unable to pay his debts, he died on 16th May 1807, at the King's Bench Prison in Bermondsey, London.
