Antique Master Print, untitled. Calligraphic sonnet in french for the writing master Felix van Sambix. Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: Source unknown, to be determined. State: Only state. Ref: Fuhring 12695. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Simon Frisius' after 'Jan van de Velde I'. Simon Frisius (1580-1629) was active as engraver and etcher. He has a very distintive style. Frisius can be seen as a transitional figure between Mannerism and later styles. Jan van de Velde the Elder (1568-1623), was a Dutch calligrapher, writing teacher, and engraver. He was the father of the engraver Jan van de Velde. Condition: Very good, given age. Cut to the plateline, left edge uneven from binding. A small dampstain in the top edge, some soiling in the lower edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
