The image size is ca. 16.5 x 10.9 inch.Antique print, titled: ''Sterna Nigra'' - This scarce original antique bird print shows the black tern (Chlidonias niger). Old name. Sterna nigra. This antique print originates from: "Nederlandsche Vogelen", (English: Dutch birds) a five volume Dutch natural history compendium by Cornelius Nozeman and Christiaan Sepp, published in Amsterdam from 1770. It was published in instalments and was finished in 1829. It was the first comprehensive avifauna of the Netherlands (which temporarily included Belgium during 1815 - 1830). At this point we still carry most of the plates from this famous and exceedingly rare work, which ranks among Audubon and Barraband as the most beautiful bird prints ever created. Most birds are engraved close to life-size. Each plate comes with the corresponding original text page(s). The last volume was finished by Jan Sepp, with advice from Coenraad Jacob Temminck. The coloured engravings were made by Christiaan Sepp, Jan Christiaan Sepp (his son), and Jan Sepp (his grandson).Condition: Very good, given age. Edges with an occasional tiny tear, not affecting image. Margins with a few crinkles and a small hole. Irregular edges as issued. We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
