Antique print, titled: 'Le chateau d' Eisden pres de Maestricht.' - This print shows the castle Eisden near the Dutch city Maastricht. This scarse plate originates from: 'Voyage Pittoresque dans le Royaume des Pays-Bas.', by Mr. De Cloet, published in Bruxelles, 1825. Tinted lithograph on wove paper. Made by 'Jean Baptiste Madou' after 'Otto Baron de Howen'. This plate drawn on stone by Madou, printed by Jobard. Jean Baptiste Madou (1796-1877) originated from Brussels. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of lithography in Belgium. Ambroise Jobard (active around 1830) was a Belgian lithographer, active in Brussels and Amsterdam. Otto Baron de Howen (1774-1848) was born in an influential Russian family. He joined the Russian army but fell out of grace with the court. In 1799 he came to the Netherlands to join the artillery of the Batavian Republic, where he rose to the rank of Luietenant-General. He sometimes used the name Ant(h)on. Good, given age. Some foxing stains in print and margin, mainly in the lower margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
