Antique print, titled: 'Societas in proximorum solatium gratis se effundit. Vita actiua contemplatiuam iuuat.' - Two emblems on one sheet: 'Comfort spreads freely among the Society's neighbours. Joy in active and contemplative life'. The first emblem shows a fountain spreading its water in increasing number of spouts. The other emblem shows a mechanical clock hanging on a wall. From Johannes Bolland's 'Imago Primi Saeculi Societatis Iesu [.]', published in Antwerp: Plantijn, 1640. A Dutch translation ('Afbeeldinghe van d'eerste eeuwe der Societeyt Iesu', transl.: Images of the first century of Jesuits) was published in the same year. Engraving and letterpress on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Cornelis Galle' after 'Author: Johannes Bolland, et al'. Cornelis Galle (Flemish 1576-1650). Johannes Bolland (1596-1665). Very good, given age. The margin edges a little browned and with some soiling. A crease in the top margin, and soft creasing in the lower margin. Left margin uneven and with some creases, from binding. Images clean. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 35.5 x 22.5 cm. The image size is ca. 14 x 11 cm. The overall size is ca. 14 x 8.9 inch. The image size is ca. 5.5 x 4.3 inch. Storage location: A306-22.
