New Caledonia (French: Nouvelle-Caledonie) is a special collectivity of France located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, east of Australia. The archipelago, part of the Melanesia subregion, includes the main island of Grande Terre, the Loyalty Islands, the Belep archipelago, the Isle of Pines and a few remote islets. The Chesterfield Islands in the Coral Sea are also part of New Caledonia. Locals refer to Grande Terre as 'Le Caillou', the rock. This scarse engraved plate originates from: 'De mensch, zoo als hij voorkomt op den bekenden aardbol beschreven door Martinus Suart, afgebeeld door Jacques Kuyper.', 1st ed. in 6 parts, published by Johannes Allart, Amsterdam, 1802. This famous anthropological work was 'the first Dutch treatise on geographical anthropology. Quite a few plates are after the travel accounts of Captain Cook, La P� � rouse, Carver, Levaillant, etc.' (Landwehr).Artists and Engravers: Author: Martinus Stuart (Dutch preacher, historian: 1765-1826). He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).

We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg.
