This delicate handcoloured engraving originates from: 'Oeuvres completes de Buffon, avec la nomenclature Linneene et la classification de Cuvier.' Published in Paris by Garnier Freres, Libraires, 6 Rue des Saint-Peres, 1853.Artists and Engravers: Author: Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (September 7, 1707 - April 16, 1788). French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon's views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. This handcoloured engravings is by Oudet after Edouard Travies (1809-c1868) The minute precision of Edouard Travies' work places him with the best of France's scientific artists. his bird drawings are considered to be some of the finest ever produced.Condition: Fine. General age related toning and occasional light staining from handling as visible on image if applicable. Some remains of binding in margin. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).

We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
