Antique print, titled: 'Ardua dum Petrus cenacula scandit et orans [.].' - The vision of Peter of the unclean animals. This edition was printed around 1700, based on the watermark by the Publisher Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702). The set is usually published as "Groote Figuer-bijbel"or "Theatrum Biblicum". The Visscher family published these already antique plates from 1649 on. Ref: After Hollstein 212 Theatrum Biblicum. Engraving on Laid paper. Watermark: Coat of arms of Amsterdam with a lower beam. Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Johannus Stradanus'. Johannus Stradanus (also: Jan van der Straat or Giovanni Stradano, 1523-1605) was a Flanders-born mannerist artist active in 16th century Florence. Very good, given age. Large margins. Some foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 37.7 x 31.5 cm. The image size is ca. 26.5 x 20.4 cm.
