Etching / engraving on hand laid paper. Description: Pierius Winsemius' "Chronique ofte Historische Geschiedenisse van Vrieslandt", Franeker: J. Lamrinck, 1622. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Simon Frisius' after own design. Simon de Vries or Simon Wynouts Frisius (ca. 1580-1628) was a Dutch engraver, etcher, draughtsman and calligrapher, born in Harlingen. He spent a few years in Paris but returned to the Netherlands, where he would spend his final days in The Hague. His prints show a very distinct style and mannerist character. Simon de Vries or Simon Frisius (1570 75, Harlingen 1628/29, The Hague), was a Dutch engraver. He started his career in Paris, and worked in Rouen and Amsterdam before moving to The Hague. Condition: Very good, given age. Attached to carrier sheet. Letterpress text on the rear of the sheet. Two wormholes in the right edge of the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: C296-17 The overall size is ca. 7.9 x 11.8 inch.
