Antique ichthyological engraving, from the section 'Knochenkiefe, Branchiostegi: Messerfisch, Centrifcus ? It shows Meerschnepfe, Schildfisch (Snipefish, Clingfish). Original handcoloured etching/engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: This print originates from 'Unterhaltungen aus der Naturgeschichte, Der Fische erster Theil' by Gottlieb Thomas Wilhelm, published in Vienna, 1812.Artists and Engravers: Gottlied Tobias Wilhelm (1758 - 1822) was a Bavarian clergyman and naturalist in Augsburg. The fine engraved plates are by Paul Martin Wilhelm, the brother of the author and others. Condition: Very good given age. One margin cropped to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: C268-18 The overall size is ca. 4.1 x 6.9 inch.
