Antique print, untitled. The explorer Sebald de Weert at a conference with a king in Guinee. Illustration to "Kort en waerachtig verhael.". This was later republished in Isaac Commelin (1598-1676) on VOC voyages: 'Begin ende voortgangh van de Vereenighde Nederlantsche Geoctroyeerde Oost-Indische Companie.', published by Joannes Janssonius, Amsterdam, 1646. Guinee. Engraving on laid paper. Made by 'Casparus Commelin' after an anonymous artist. Casparus Commelin (1636-1693), publisher and bookseller in Amsterdam. Engraver/etcher unknown. Very good, given age. Ample margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 21.5 x 17.5 cm.
