Antique print titled: 'Vue Generale de la ville d'Alicata. En Sicilie.' (General view of Licata, Sicily.) Original etching and engraving on a verge type handlaid watermarked paper. Description: This plate originates from: 'Voyage Pittoresque ou description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicilie.', by l�Abbe / Jean-Claude Richard de Saint Non (1727-1791), Imprimerie de Clousier, in 5 volumes, Paris, 1781-1786. Several reknown artists of it's time made plates for this work.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by de Ghendt after Desprez. Emmanuel Jean Nepomucene de Ghendt (1738-1815) a Flemish draughtsman and engraver, was born near Antwerp in 1738, but died in Paris in 1815. Though Flemish by birth, de Ghent was considered an artist of the French school. De Ghendt joined the Paris workshop of Jacques Aliamet in 1766 and he was part of a group of printmakers in Paris known as the Abbeville school. Louis Jean Desprez (1743-1804) was a French painter and architect who worked in Sweden during the last twenty years of his life. Condition: Image in good condition with some light spotwise staining. Margins with some remains of glue from previous attachment to matting. Tear in to right corner, backed, not effecting image. Please study scan carefully.
