Plate, page 15: (John 1 : 9) The True Light of the world. It shows: Christ is here displayed in emblematic form as the Light of the World, standing on the monogram IHS. He is surrounded by four portraits. Original woodcut on verge type hand laid paper. Watermarks present, but nog visible on every sheet. Description: This delicate plate originates from: 'Oogen Salve; Verdeylt in Drie Tractaten.', by Petri de la Faille, 1647 ed. published in Leuven by Bernardijn Maes. (Transl.: Eyes ointment / anointing eyes, divided in 3 parts.) This work is lavishly illustrated with fine woodblock prints.Artists and Engravers: Author: Petrus de la Faille (b.1584), who was a preacher in Caudekerc. Born Calvinist in Dordrecht he later moved to Belgium, where het transferred to Catholocism in 1607 and became a Franciscan. Plates cut by Christoffel van Sichem. Christoffel van Sichem (1581, Basel � 1658, Amsterdam), was a Dutch Golden Age woodcutter and engraver. Condition: Good given age. A vertical printer's fold over the image.
