A spectacular and original chromolithographic print on a single sheet and beautifully colour-printed illustration from the 1883 The Graphic Christmas Number. The copyrighted image measures approximately 19.5 inches by 12 inches and has additionally generous plain margins. the title: CHRISTMAS IN CANADA - A Juvenile Skating Ball, describes the scene, being from a painting by the French artist Adrien Marie. The whereabouts of the original painting are unknown, possibly in Canada? The illustration incorporates the artist's signature. An assortment of about twelve young skaters in historical costumes dominates the foreground with other skating figures and an orchestra in the background. The sense of movement is very well done and the detail is impressive; the colour is rich yet not harsh and it would difficult to emulate never mind improve on in modern reproductions. The condition is Fine with very light creasing to the edges and a central crease of course. Printed on heavier paper stock than other pages, there is no show-through from the text on the reverse under normal conditions. A beautiful original print.
