Original engraving by Alexandre de Laborde, hand-colored, about 1810, with the general view of Merida from the Guadiana: the Roman bridge reaching toward the town and the Moorish Alcazaba closing it to the south, the towers rising above the rooftops. From the Voyage pittoresque et historique de l'Espagne, the most ambitious publishing venture devoted to Spain: four large folio volumes with more than nine hundred prints, the fruit of Laborde's journeys through the Peninsula between 1800 and 1805.
