About this Item

A group of 31 drawings and small paintings of ships dated 1949. They came from a scrap book in which the sheets measure 20 x 16.5 cms. So small images - the largest measuring 10.5 x 17.5 cms - but painted and drawn with knowledge and proficiency. They are unsigned though one is initialed, with the characters being hard to make out. Painted on both scraps of lined and checked paper, and sometimes on paper of better quality more suitable for inks such as the back of a Valentine's Christmas card, they might have been produced by someone in service using what was available to him at the time, (though the ships do not seem to be military craft). I have included scraps of newspaper that came with the collection which date the picture; also some images taken from magazines that remain stuck on the painted pages which I assume the artist used for reference. Condition: Very good. The paintings are only occasionally a little marked by ink and signs of age. they are glued onto only one side of the scrap book page so with care could be framed and shown to their advantage.
