A FINE engraved depiction of the Royal Navy's ocean-going ship H.M.S. Thunderer steaming underway and depicted, for contrast, with Britain's earlier sailed fighting ships. Launched in 1872, this engraving of 1877 depicts the ship before its relaunch following a disastrous boiler explosion. She was known as an unlucky ship. She reached a maximum of 13.4 knots in trials and could steam 4,700 nautical miles at 10 knots. She was the fifth ship of her name to serve in the Royal Navy. Image size: 30cm by 22.5cm with generous margins. Image here is degraded and cropped but original is larger and pin sharp. Secure cardboard tube delivery.
