About this Item
A truly exquisite example of Georgian portraiture, this characterful painting is in remarkable condition, an overall, beautiful, historical object. The painting, by the renowned Henry Wyatt, shows the sitter (S. S. Lloyd Esquire), in a red high backed chair in front of luxurious red velvet drapery. Wyatt has executed this portrait with his notable skill and technique that was clearly influenced by his time spent learning under Sir Thomas Lawrence. Incidentally, this painting was executed in 1817, two years after the first came under Lawrence's tutelage and the beginning of his career as an established portrait painter in his own studio in Birmingham. The painting has been handsomely presented in its original gilt frame with brass hanger. The artist has faintly signed (H. Wyatt) and dated to the upper left of the reverse of the wood panel and there is a later inscription across the back with the name of the sitter (upper left), the location (possibly Bank High St, Birmingham) and a further inscription reading "Assistant to Sir Thomas Lawrence). On wood panel. Size: Large (30-60cm) Framed: No. Seller Inventory # rd205
