About this Item

This house, whose site is now wholly occupied by Palace Gate, was built in 1804 for George Aust, Secretary to the Royal Hospital at Chelsea. The architect was George Byfield. Its three-and-a-half-acre site was leased to Aust for ninety-nine years in February 1805. Six years later Aust bought the freehold. In November 1861 the building firm of William Cubitt and Company purchased the estate, demolished the house and laid out the site for building. Seller Inventory # P-6-107224
