Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 15.8 x 11.6 inch. The image size is ca. 15 x 10.2 inch.Antique print, titled: 'Gezigt aan de Helder.' - ('View of Den Helder'). A view of the sea near Den Helder, the Netherlands, with several tall ships. This very attractive old antique copperplate engraved and etched print originates from: 'Atlas van de zeehavens der Bataafsche Republiek die van Batavia en Onrust mitsgaders der afbeeldingen van de haringvisscherij en de walvischvangst in een-en-dertig kunstplaaten . met vermelding van veele bijzonderheden betreffende den ouden en lateren toestand des Nederlandsche koophandels, visscherijen, trafieken en fabrieken .', by C. v.d. Aa, published in 1805 in Amsterdam by E. Maaskamp. (Translation: Atlas of the ports of the Batavian / Dutch Republic, of Batavia / Djakarta, Onrust, including images of the herring fishery and whaling in a total of 31 art plates . with description of many interesting characteristics of the historic and current state of the Dutch trade, fischery, navigation and plants.) Optical. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'D. De Jongh' after 'Kobell'. The Author is Cornelis van der Aa (Leiden 1749 - Amsterdam 1816) He was a bookseller in Haarlem when he was convicted in 1796 by the schepenen of the city to five years imprisonment and consecutive perpetual exile from the department Holland for political reasons as a follower of the stadtholders. At the end of 1799, he was released and settled in Utrecht as a bookseller. From then on until his death in 1816 in Amsterdam, he spent his time writing and selling books. Engraved by Dirk de Jongh (active 1779-86) after the drawings by H. Kobell Jr. which he had made at the scene.Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold as issued. A small tear in lower part of middle fold, reinforced using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
