THE PRINCESS ROYAL,1880s ART PRINT ENGRAVED FROM A STATUE

ENGRAVED BY W. ROFFE FROM THE STATUE BY THORNYCROFT. This print depicts a neoclassical sculptural work titled "The Princess Royal", showcasing an idealized female figure in a contemplative pose. The woman is rendered in a flowing, draped garment that cascades around her form, conveying a sense of grace and elegance. Her facial features are delicately sculpted, reflecting a pensive, introspective expression. The pedestal below the figure is inscribed with the word "SUMMER", suggesting the sculpture's symbolic representation of the warm, serene qualities of the summer season. This work pays homage to a member of the British royal family. The neoclassical style and idealized portrayal of the female figure are characteristic of Victorian-era art, where classical forms and themes were often employed to evoke timeless ideals of beauty, virtue, and contemplation. The sculpture's tranquil, meditative pose and the summer symbolism suggest a celebration of feminine qualities like introspection, tranquility, and the natural world.Approximate Size of Plate without borders: 7 1/4 x 2 3/4 Ins Approximate Size of Plate with borders: 12 3/4 x 9 1/2 Ins CONDITION: Large Full Page Steel engraving.
