Initially a concert singer and oratorio soloist, she performed some of Gustav Mahler's songs in Leipzig. Her operatic career began in 1887 at the Leipzig Opernhaus, debuting in Max Bruch's "Die Loreley" and singing in the premiere of Carl Maria von Weber s "Die drei Pintos" in 1888. She joined the Berlin Hofoper in 1889, where she performed for over 25 years, including premieres like Felix von Weingartner s "Genesius" (1892), W. Kienzl's "Don Quixote" (1898), Fernand Le Borne's "Mudarra" (1899), Eugene d'Albert's "Cain" (1900), Arthur Nevin's "Poia" (1910), the German premiere of Puccini s "Madama Butterfly" (1907), the Berlin premiere of "Die Rosenkavalier" (1911), and Cornelius' "Der Barbier von Bagdad" (1913). After a performance of "Carmen," Emperor Wilhelm II gifted her a sapphire brooch in 1890. Following her retirement, she taught in Berlin, but tragically, during the Nazi regime, she was arrested for being Jewish and died in the Theresienstadt ghetto.
