Original; signed indistinctly (n.d. early 20th century). 165 x 230mm; 165 x 250mm (both 340 x 400mm framed). Ink on paper; mounted and framed in wood with glass. Sheet 1 lettered: "Nec elata, nec dejecta. Nec volenti, nec nolenti"; sheet 2 lettered: "Ad arma paratus. Quod retis hec est. Currente calamo." Copied from plates in 'Grotesque Animals: Invented, Drawn, and Described by E. W. Cooke' published by Longmans, Green, and Co. (1872), less detailed than the originals. Both VG condition, slight toning to edges, sheet 2 has small chip to wood frame on lower edge.
